Forget what you see on tv- real Jersey girls (and guys) are tougher than tough and know how to get an important job done- especially when it comes to breast cancer. Last Monday night twenty volunteers for the Northern New Jersey chapter of the Young Survival Coalition (YSC) assembled with a daunting task: stuffing, stamping, sealing, and addressing 2,750 invitations for their annual fundraiser "In Living Pink". Volunteers were teenagers and adults, men and women, survivors and supporters - but they all shared the same goal: to end breast cancer in young women.
Within 3 hours, the completed invitations were ready to be dropped at the post office. Amazing? Not really - these dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to get to their goal. And their goal is bigger than sending out invitations for what will be a fun event. They are spreading the word that young women CAN and DO get breast cancer, and that YSC is there, fighting for a cure and offering support and information.
Young Survival Coalition is the only non-profit dedicated to the unique issues facing young women diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40. "In Living Pink" is YSC Northern NJ's signature fund raising event and features a buffet dinner, silent auction and live music.
