Ness Hills

Oil on canvas, but laid on wispy-watery. . 18 x 24 ish. Unlike my usual bull in a china shop approach to slapping on paint and scraping it off, I am being kind to this one.

Ouch

I may call the SPCA on myself- at what point is this animal cruelty. Well, I hate to waste paint and I had a palette full from Edinburgh.

Things I know now

Or "Things motherhood has taught me about being an artist":
#1: Bounty White paper towels are better than rags.
#2: Cheap, plain dishwashing liquid is a great brush cleaner, and easier on your hands than lava soap. I squirt some on the back of one of those scrubby sponges and it really does the job.

I'm sure there are more; I'll have to think. In the meantime, maybe I'll frame the paper towel.

Edinburgh

Goodness only knows where this painting and I are going. The yellows are too yellow and the oranges too orange. Sometimes color is like an unruly dog.

John Wilson

I think he was one of the most passionate artists I ever met; I still hear his voice when I draw (That sounds scary, but it isn't.). Sometimes it seemed like the energy of the line flowed right from his arm to the pad.  I think his later works (check out his current show  at Martha Richardson here) are his best. Here is the link to the Globe article. 88! Here's hoping that the art flame keeps us all making art for many, many years!

Buddy

Oil on canvas. I am using Buddy to avoid my landscape. Sort of like talking to someone at a party who you are not that interested in simply to avoid having to talk to someone else. Poor Buddy. He is an adorable dog that I have somehow made to look like a goat.
